Support a senior faculty member and honor the commitment of our faculty

Cornell's outstanding faculty change students' lives. Cornellians will tell you that the same faculty who shaped their experiences on campus continue to influence them personally and professionally. Cornell expects to lose up to 600 faculty in the next 10 years due to a surge in retirements. Peer universities will face similar recruiting challenges at the same time, placing new pressure on Cornell to attract and retain the very best teachers, researchers, and scholars in an intensely competitive hiring environment. Increasing faculty endowment funds is vital to the continued health of the university. Available in all colleges, this gift provides support for a senior faculty member who is considering retirement, enabling Cornell to fill the existing faculty position with a new hire. By doing so, Cornell can continue to benefit from the senior faculty member's wisdom and experience while recruiting the most talented new faculty.

Cornell expects to lose up to 600 faculty in the next 10 years due to a surge in retirements. Peer universities will face similar recruiting challenges at the same time, placing new pressure on Cornell to attract and retain the very best teachers, researchers, and scholars in an intensely competitive hiring environment. A named faculty fellowship endowment recognizes an outstanding department chair or faculty member, providing salary enhancement, summer salary support, or other expenditures associated with the position as determined by the dean. The title of "faculty fellow" may be conferred for a period of up to three years and may be held concurrently with other named positions. Faculty fellowship donors who choose to increase their gift at a later date may augment the fund's principal and allocate the larger endowment to a professorship or other position.
